Facebook Launches New Like Buttons

Starting today, Facebook introduces a new Like button that gives you more ways to express yourself, for those moments when a thumbs-up or a smiley face is just not enough.

It’s called Reactions and it allows the user to communicate using more complex symbols that represent feelings like sadness or frustration.

“Not every moment you want to share is happy,” says Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

There has been talk of adding a dislike button on the social media platform for years.  “The community has been asking for a dislike button…but not because people want to tell friends they don’t like their posts. People wanted to express empathy and make it comfortable to share a wider range of emotions,” says Zuckerberg.

When you press and hold down the Like button, more buttons appear that give you the option to select the appropriate emoticon for love, laughter, surprise, sadness or anger.

On his Facebook page Zuckerberg says that “Love is the most popular reaction so far, which feels about right to me!”
