In a one-night-only special event, three* global centres for the arts team up to present the world premiere of renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s new film Nightmare Alley on Dec. 1.
The Toronto International Film Festival, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the newly opened Academy Museum in Los Angeles are all showcasing the red-carpet global event in a simultaneous screening of del Toro’s latest project, Nightmare Alley.
Actors and filmmakers from Searchlight Pictures’ Nightmare Alley will walk the red-carpet at Broadway’s Lincoln Center, while audiences at the exclusive Canadian venue TIFF Bell Lightbox, home of Toronto’s namesake annual international film festival, will host the global screening of the film. A simultaneous screening of the film will take place at the David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles.
The TIFF event will feature a live-stream Q&A session with the cast and filmmakers, beamed in from Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center in New York in select cinemas at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
Insider tickets go on sale November 24 for TIFF members and to the general public the following day for this unique event on a first-come, first-served basis.
Nightmare Alley is the newest production from del Toro, who won Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for the cinematically beautiful 2017 film The Shape of Water. Like many of his films, including Mimic, Blade II, Crimson Peak, The Shape of Water, and the TV series The Strain, Nightmare Alley was filmed in Toronto, a tradition going back to 1997.
The film features Bradley Cooper as a con-artist drifter looking for a golden ticket to wealth in 1940s New York, alongside an esteemed cast of actors; Toni Collette, Rooney Mara, Richard Jenkins, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn.
Leading up to the general release of Nightmare Alley, TIFF will be showcasing a curated set of del Toro’s top five favourite films in the noir genre to be showcased in Toronto.
