Like many of his films, including MimicBlade IICrimson PeakThe Shape of Water, and the TV series The Strain, Nightmare Alley was filmed in Toronto, a tradition going back to 1997.

The film features Bradley Cooper as a con-artist drifter looking for a golden ticket to wealth in 1940s New York, alongside an esteemed cast of actors; Toni Collette, Rooney Mara, Richard Jenkins, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn.

Leading up to the general release of Nightmare Alley, TIFF will be showcasing a curated set of del Toro’s top five favourite films in the noir genre to be showcased in Toronto.
