The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just announced the host of the next Oscar Awards event.

It’s no other than Emmy Award-winning late-night talk show host and producer Jimmy Kimmel. Executive producers and showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner announced today that Kimmel will return to host the 95th Oscars. This will be Kimmel’s third time at the helm. 

“We’re super thrilled to have Jimmy score his hat trick on this global stage. We know he will be funny and ready for anything!” said Weiss and Kirshner.

Kimmel hosted the television broadcast of the film industry awards show in 2017 and 2018. In response to the honour of being asked to host next year’s show Kimmel said, “Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honour or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.”  

They asked Kimmel to host the show because of his years of experience doing live TV. “His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang.

Kimmel serves as host and executive producer of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! He recently signed a three-year contract extension for the show, making him one of the longest-running talk show hosts in American television history.

Craig Erwich, president, ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals said that, as the home of Hollywood’s biggest night, they can’t wait to toast the success of this year’s cinema and storytelling with Kimmel.

The Oscars will air live on ABC and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
