StreetARToronto organized a competition to select two artists whose artwork will appear on the outer walls of the north and south staircases of the recently built King-Liberty Bridge that connects Toronto’s Liberty Village neighbourhood with King Street West.
StreetARToronto has narrowed it down to five artists and will be selecting two artists whose work meet the criteria of “Land Back” and features art that is reflective of the local indigenous perspective. The artwork is intended to be a reminder that it is a human responsibility to build a healthy future together as they cross the overpass. The murals are meant to take people through a journey that reawakens their relationship with and responsibility to Mother Earth as they make their way across the bridge.
The final five shortlisted artists whose work may be highlighted on the bridge are SJ Okemow, Brad Longmore (KREECHA), Peatr Thomas and Donovan Spence, Cedar Eve Peters, and the Run Collective.
