Marvel boldly enters into sweeping podcast deal with SiriusXM and Pandora

Marvel Entertainment is creating new digital audio content exclusively for SiriusXM and Pandora streaming platforms and services. The new creative collaboration with Marvel will provide subscribers, listeners and fans of the comic book franchise with never-before-seen breadth and depth of content in the world of podcasts.

The multi-year agreement will see Marvel release five original scripted series based on already established Marvel characters, unscripted interview-format shows with high-profile guests as well as live events. The programs will be introduced over the next few years on a weekly basis starting with several popular podcasts in 2020. As part of the deal, SiriusXM and Pandora get to debut many of Marvel’s podcasts before they’re heard elsewhere.

Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley says audio is the natural step in bringing the Marvel Universe to fans around the world, as “powerful stories are read, seen, and heard.”

Since Marvel has been at the forefront of comic book creation for the past 80 years, has had blockbuster success in film and TV through a long list of characters from Spider-Man, X-Men, Thor, and Avengers, to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the next logical step would be to fully embrace the world of audio.

Marvel plans to release 10-episode series sets that will focus on the characters Wolverine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Star-Lord, and a fifth series in which all four team up. The unscripted podcasts will look at Marvel’s rich history through modern-day pop culture, podcasts dedicated to popular Marvel franchises, and regular talk shows, including a show in interview format, which will feature celebrity guests.

Although SiriusXM collaborated with Marvel just a couple of months ago, this will be their first time creating original podcasts at this level and scope. They are getting curated content and Marvel will create new audio programming exclusively for their platforms and services.
