If you’re interested in law and need some extra financial assistance, a Canadian law firm is offering a scholarship that could help. The firm is increasing the scholarship fund to help offset technology costs associated with studying during the pandemic. They even extended the application deadline.
Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers has been active in their local community of Lindsay, Ontario and about five other cities throughout the province during the lockdown. They gave pizzas to frontline health care workers during the worst part of the pandemic, and offered free information to families facing separation, divorce, and child custody issues during this vulnerable time.
For the past three years they’ve given a $2,000 bursary to students who show an interest in studying in the legal profession. But this year they’re including an additional fund of $500 to help students purchase a computer or tablet they may need to take classes online due to COVID-19. The law firm is also extending the application deadline to September 30, from the original June 30 submission date, to give students more time to apply.
The scholarship is open to Canadian students who will graduate from high school in the current academic year and who meet several criteria that are outlined on their website. To be considered for the scholarship, students must also fill out an application form, write a 1,000-word essay on a family law issue and upload a high school transcript, resume and recommendation letter.

A history of giving
The company has a history of giving that spans a decade. They formally give to a select project each year through the Russell Alexander Giving Fund, named after the owner. The Fund supports charitable organizations located mainly in Durham Region and City of Kawartha Lakes through a gift of up to $5,000 each year to organizations like Covenant House in Toronto, the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes, Lindsay Girls Hockey Association, Luke’s Place in Oshawa, 541 Eatery and Cafe in Hamilton and other places that serve their communities.
Good luck with your scholarship application, if you decide to apply.
