The award-winning play ‘da Kink in My Hair by writer-producer Trey Anthony, which inspired the primetime TV series is back for the celebration of its 20th anniversary in December.

Winner of four NAACP Awards including for Best New Play, the production is under the artistic direction of Weyni Mengesha who directed the first full production in 2003. Set in a West Indian hair salon in Toronto, ‘da Kink in My Hair untangles the triumphs and tragedies of the women who sit in Novelette’s salon chair.

The play, presented by TO Live and Soulpepper theatre, features two-time Dora nominated actress Ordena Stephens-Thompson as Novlette, and a cast of amazing actors, playwrights and musicians: Satori Shakoor, Alana Bridgewater, Shakura Dickson, Miranda Edwards, d’bi.young anitafrika, Olunike Adeliyi, Tamara Brown, Chelsea Russel, and Tiffany Deriveau. They could consider bringing this one back with more promotion for a new generation, for those who missed it and for those who would love to revisit it for its brilliance and cultural relevance.

Date: the final set date for the show is December 23 at 8 p.m.
LocationBluma Appel Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts
